That they might set their hope in GOD, and not forget the works of God, but keep HIS commandments (Psalm 78:7).
The above scripture is one of the summaries of the Bible; that is, what GOD wants to get across to us, in a nutshell. The Lord wants us to set our hope in Him. He wants us to be so dependent on and connected to Him that nothing; absolutely nothing, separates us from His love (Romans 8:35-39). The holy scriptures (The Bible) have been preserved all this time and expounded the world over to let everyone know that HE (God) is the beginning and end of all things. All our hopes, dreams and aspirations are in His hands. The earlier we settle this in our minds and walk accordingly, the better things will be in our journey of faith (Isaiah 26:3-4; Romans 1:16-17; Philippians 4:6-8; 1 Peter 5:7).
We live in a fallen world, which means that from time to time events, circumstances, and even other people (on some occasions) try to distract us and take our focus away from Almighty God. This is because the devil (Satan) is the god of this world’s social system – he will remain in that position for a while; not forever (Matthew 8:29; 2 Corinthians 4:4). He stirs up whoever and whatever he can to oppose the righteous cause and course of Almighty God. He (the devil) does not care if people believe in him or not; his only desire is that they don’t cleave to the True God with all their hearts. This is why you must come to The Lord (Almighty God) with a sincere heart, if you are not yet united with Him. Once you are with Him, you must be determined never to turn back. You cannot do this by yourself; you need The Lord’s help (1 Samuel 2:9; Zechariah 4:6-7; Matthew 19:26)! If you make it clear to God you need Him, He will wholeheartedly embrace you (Matthew 5:6; John 6:37).
Why is it necessary to set one’s hope in Almighty God? It is so because He is the only sure anchor (preserver and helper) in life (Isaiah 26:3-4). We will be tested from time to time, whether we trust in Him or not (Matthew 7:24-27). If you (like many millions of people, the world over) acknowledge that you cannot make it in this life on your own, you need The Lord to be your hope and stay. We are strengthened when others are there for us, but make no mistake; they can let you down! This is not because they are not good or decent people, but because everyone born of a woman is limited. People come and go, but the Lord sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). Ask for the Lord’s help today and determine in your heart to set your face as a flint, that is, to set your hope in Him. You will never be ashamed (Isaiah 50:7)!
